I WANT TO BE A WOMAN IN TOMORROW'S WORLD.
WRITING BY RACHEL BLACKBURN
There’s a lot I don’t know, and isn’t that exciting? How boring would it be if we knew all there was to know? LIFE IS ABOUT LEARNING and the learning should never end. As you grow and morph, it’s often hard to shed the skin that once formed your being. Who I was at 5 was not who I was at 10 and who I was at 15 was not who I was at 20. Sometimes people see the face, hear the voice and it is one of the same and occasionally, when looking in the mirror, you don't see the difference either. Life keeps moving, whether we're ready to move or not and learning is all part of adapting and leaping forward into being a woman in tomorrows world. Life for WABI-SABI is about EDUCATING | INSPIRING | LEARNING
We are women living in the western world. Privilege, optimistic and a float with opportunity. Wouldn't it be wonderful to create a world where we were all given the equal opportunities to choose our path in life? A world where children didn't become brides, women weren't captured and sold as sex slaves and "acid throwing" wasn't a generalised term used to describe a violent act against women. “I think it is important to be informed about issues that affect women globally because we can otherwise think every other woman's lived experiences are much like OUR OWN. We can become the voice of feminism and set the agendas for equality with NO PERSPECTIVE of or input from diverse women with diverse lived experiences,” says Kellie. A woman in tomorrows world must first start with knowledge, awareness, understanding and gaining a new perspective perspective. Sami, 23 says "I WANT TO BE A WOMAN IN TOMORROW'S WORLD, where men and women, despite what part of the world they come from, care for the quality of each individual's right to be safe and happy where options are provided and women are encouraged to make choices".
My learning is ongoing and as I enter my final semester of my Masters in Public Health, I'll be learning even more. I will be sharing my discoveries with you here on WABI-SABI. The books I read, the movies and documentaries I watch, the people I meet, the stories I hear. I will pass on my learning to you and we can all learn something new together. In January I'll be packing up a bag and flying to Cambodia and Vietnam for two weeks where I KNOW my learning cup will turn into a learning swimming pool full of new perspectives and encounters. This too will be shared here. Lets all strive to be...
